To commemorate your trip! For your Activity! 3 “Manufacturing Experiences” available in the area around Kawasaki Station
The area around Kawasaki Station is crowded with shopping malls, movie theaters, and restaurants. In fact, there are many spots where you can experience making things, which is an essential part of traveling.
In this issue, we would like to introduce three spots that are close to the hotel, are not too bulky to take home, and can be completed in a short time.

All of these spots are located within a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel!

You can put your favorite name and birthday on the label! TAG-COFFEE STAN(D)” where you can make your own original labeled drink [10-20 minutes】
First, let me introduce “TAG-COFFEE STAN(D)” located in “109 Cinemas Kawasaki” on the 5th floor of Lazona Kawasaki Plaza. You can semi-order your one-of-a-kind original label and drink.
The procedure is very simple. Access the order page with your smartphone and select the store (109 Cinemas Kawasaki).
Next, select a drink from “Coffee” and “Tea.
You can also order at the “Customize Experience Corner” in the store!
For coffee, select “Black/Latte,” “COLD/HOT,” “Sweetness,” “Base,” and “Flavor” in order. Seasonal flavors are also available for a limited time only. (*The limited flavor for January 2024, when we covered the event, was “Strawberry Chocolat.)
In the case of tea, customize the tea to your taste by selecting “Black Tea/Fruit Tea/Tea Latte,” “COLD/HOT,” “Sweetness,” and “Base” in that order.
Finally, it is time to create the design. Select a label and banner, and enter the text.
There are four types of labels and over 3,000 banner designs. There are two text fields where you can freely write letters and numbers. It can be used not only for yourself, but also for gifts for family, friends, and loved ones.
Finally, present the 2D code at the counter and you can receive your bottle in about 5 minutes.
To order at the “Customized Experience Corner,” scan the barcode with your smartphone and go to the counter.
I simply put my name and a favorite word!
The male staff member who accompanied me put the name and birthday of a certain world-famous Korean idol, saying that his wife asked him to do so.
The store is located in front of the entrance of 109 Cinemas Kawasaki. How about making a “special bottle” to commemorate your trip?

Feel like a perfumer! MeRveilles” where you can experience making your own original perfume (60 minutes)
MeRveilles, located in Azalea, an underground shopping mall at the east exit of the hotel, is an 8-minute walk from the hotel, where you can experience making your own original perfume.
The store sells about 100 kinds of products, including 4 original products. Tastings are also available.
Even beginners can feel at ease, as perfumer Tatsuya Seo will gently lead you through the process of creating your own perfume. Even beginners can feel at ease as they are gently guided by the perfumer, Mr. Tatsuya Seo, to find the “scent they are looking for” in a short time.
The first step is to fill out a questionnaire, in which you pick one of 10 different colors and two of 20 different words, such as “refreshing” and “friendly. According to Seo, it is easier to formulate the ideal fragrance if you use colors and adjectives rather than specific scents, such as “bergamot.
Next, the detailed image of the fragrance to be blended is indexed on a nine-point scale based on “cool/warm,” “sweet/dry,” “light/thick,” “complex/simple,” and “masculine/feminine. About 10 minutes have passed so far. Solidifying the concept is the decisive factor for success.
The survey results are then entered into a computer. Three types of flavors are picked up through data analysis.
The tasting will include two flavors and two versions of all three flavors.
The key is to drop one drop of fragrance from the same height as the blue object. If it is too high or too low than this, it will affect the formulation.
The mixture is mixed with a mouette (tasting paper) and shaken gently for 5 seconds before tasting. The key is to stop and sniff at a distance where you can smell the aroma, not all the way up to your nose at once. Note that if you take a deep breath, your nose will get tired and you will not be able to taste accurately!
Finally, the database is populated with values that are the “exact opposite” of the 9 levels of “cool/warm,” “sweet/dry,” “light/rich,” “complex/simple,” and “masculine/feminine” that were used in the first step. Two or three completely different flavoring versions were determined, and the same tasting process was repeated to determine the combination of flavors that was closest to the concept.
Before we knew it, we had an array of tasted mouettes. In the end, we decided on a combination that expressed the “exact opposite” image of the second one. It was a surprise.
After naming the perfumes, the experience ended with a small 3-milliliter bottle. We were also given a lecture on the proper way to apply the perfume, which was a very satisfying experience.
According to Ms. Seo, many customers come to the store for the purpose of “making perfumes in the image of their guesses. This is sure to make the “guessing activity” even more exciting!
MeRveilles sells “044,” an original perfume that expresses the scent of Kawasaki (currently out of stock). They plan to release a new version, “Murasaki no Oto” in July 2024, the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Kawasaki City. The name is appropriate for Kawasaki, a city of music. We can't wait to see what kind of fragrance it will be.

Experience the Edo faceting you have always dreamed of with the help of a professional! Tokaido Glass (60 minutes)
Lastly, I would like to introduce Tokaido Glass. This is a class where you can experience Edo faceting, a traditional craft that is the pride of Japan. It is a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Located along the old Tokaido Highway, there are facilities nearby to learn about Edo history and culture, such as the Tokaido Kawasaki-juku Exchange Center.
The classroom is a 70-year-old building that has been renovated and retains the atmosphere of an old private house in places. (*The maximum number of students is six.)
The instructors are faceted glass artists who graduated from the Tokyo Glass Art Institute in neighboring Ota Ward.
We started our hands-on experience right away.
The first step was to practice making patterns on a glass plate. It was a difficult task for beginners to get used to, but they were able to get a sense of “cutting glass” while using the machine.
Finally, it was time for the real work. First, we decided on the shape and pattern of the object we wanted to make.
They chose one from among 5 types of glasses (1 to 5 colors) and 3 types of transparent plates. Next, decide on the pattern and the area to be decorated, and draw a rough sketch with an oil-based pen.
When I was having a hard time choosing the right shape and pattern, the instructor of ...... gently told me, “It's important to have fun, so it's okay to be confused.
She told us that transparent glass is easier to see the drafts and less difficult to cut than colored glass, so we selected “transparent glass” for this workshop.
The pattern is simple, but the difficulty of cutting it straight and beautifully is high. ...... I realized the high level of skill of faceted glass artists, but I was able to put my heart and soul into it and enjoy making it in my own way.
This choko (cup) with an elaborate pattern was made by a staff member who accompanied us. It was quite a challenge for them to make it, but they seemed to love it because of that. It seems that it has become a favorite companion for drinking sake with friends.
The glasses they made and brought home can be used at the Tokaido Beer Kawasaki Juku Factory, one of our affiliated restaurants.
The glasses used in the store are all of high quality. Craft beer is sure to taste even better.
Be sure to take note of the Edo-kiriko lighting cover that gently illuminates the counter!
